Type Gems are items that can be used as both held items and as an ingredient in TM production.

Natural Generation

A mature Water Gem formation found in a Deepslate cave.

Type Gems generate underground as exposed crystal formations in air-exposed Deepslate caves throughout the Overworld.

Each crystal formation generates as a randomly selected gem type that grows from a Deepslate Crystal Core.

Obtaining

Mining

Type Gems can be obtained by mining Type Gem Blocks and Type Gem Clusters using an Iron Pickaxe or better.

Each stage of growth of a cluster yields a differing amount of gems:

Exploration

Type Gems can be found in any ruin structure both in gilded chests as well as in suspicious blocks.

Usage

Cultivation

Type Gems can be used on a Deepslate Crystal Core to plant crystal formations that mature into Type Gem Clusters and eventually a Type Gem Blocks.

Battling

When held by a Pokémon as a Held Item a Type Gem will boost the damage of the next move of that corresponding type by 10%, consuming the gem in the process.
