A Poké Ball is a tool used for catching, storing, and using Pokémon.
There are 32 variants of Poké Ball, 31 of which are obtainable via crafting.
Usage
A Poké Ball is the most important tool in the Cobblemon mod. Without one, you are unable to obtain any Pokémon aside from your initial starter.
In order to catch Pokémon in a Poké Ball, the Poké Ball must first be equipped in a player's hand. From here, the Poké Ball can be thrown at a Pokémon for a chance to catch it. However, if a Poké Ball misses a Pokémon completely, that ball will drop on the ground as an item, ready to be recovered.
As well, during battle, the player cannot auto-throw a Poké Ball using the catch button shown on screen. Instead, the player must press that button, equip a Poké Ball, aim, and throw it themselves.
Each of the 32 variations of Poké Ball have their own catch rates; an assigned value and behavior that changes how likely a player is to catch a Pokémon that they've thrown a ball at.
If the catch fails, the Pokémon will break out of the ball and the thrown Poké Ball cannot be recovered. If the catch is successful, the Pokémon will be added to your party or sent to your PC.
As well, each variation of Poké Ball will display itself in the party menu and PC. However, the different Poké Balls have no separate function in this state, and they become purely aesthetic.
Obtaining
As of Cobblemon v1.2, all Poké Balls must be crafted and there is no other way to obtain them. In the future, new villager professions will sell Poké Balls and related items.
However, the Cherish Ball is, and will remain, unobtainable in survival gameplay. This Poké Ball is reserved for events put on by server owners and the likes.
